D.O.E St. Augustine’s TTC: A beacon of Excellence in education

It gives me great pleasure, on behalf of the Board of Management, to extend warm greetings to our staff, students, stakeholders, and partners of St. Augustine’s Teachers Training College – Ishiara. Our college continues to grow as a center of academic excellence and moral formation, committed to shaping teachers who will play a transformative role in Kenya’s educational landscape.

The college Vision, mission and motto are the guiding principle that drives our efforts to build not only capable teachers but also men and women of character.

Where We Are Today

1. Infrastructure Development

Our college has made commendable progress in establishing facilities that support holistic teacher training. Currently, we have:

  • Well-equipped lecture halls and classrooms.
  • ICT laboratories for digital literacy and e-learning.
  • A library resource center with CBC-aligned teaching and learning materials.
  • Hostels and recreational facilities for student welfare.

However, as the landscape of teacher training evolves, the demand for expanded and modernized infrastructure remains a pressing need.

2. Teacher Curriculum Implementation

The rollout of the Competency-Based Curriculum has redefined teacher training in Kenya. At St. Augustine’s, we have taken deliberate steps to align with these requirements by:

  • Incorporating learner-centered methodologies in training.
  • Conducting structured micro-teaching sessions and practicum aligned with KNEC guidelines.
  • Integrating ICT across subjects to prepare teachers for digital-age classrooms.
  • Emphasizing values education to complement academic and professional growth.

Where We Intend to Be

1. Infrastructure Development Goals

The Board of Management envisions transforming St. Augustine’s TTC into a model teacher training institution by:

  • Constructing modern lecture theatres equipped with smart boards and ICT integration.
  • Expanding hostels to enhance student accommodation and welfare.
  • Establishing a CBC resource and innovation center for curriculum design, teaching aids production, and research.
  • Developing sports and recreation facilities to promote holistic wellness.
  • Investing in green and sustainable infrastructure, such as solar energy and water harvesting systems.

2. Curriculum Implementation Goals

To keep pace with Kenya’s CBC reforms and 21st century teaching demands, we aim to:

  • Strengthen partnerships with the Ministry of Education, TSC, and local schools for robust practicum placements.
  • Provide continuous professional development (CPD) opportunities for both tutors and trainees.
  • Deepen ICT integration, including the use of digital tools in teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Foster research and innovation to contribute solutions to Kenya’s education sector.
  • Cultivate teachers as nation-builders, equipped not only with knowledge and skills but also with values, resilience, and leadership capacity.

As a Board, we reaffirm our commitment to providing the resources, governance, and strategic direction necessary to make St. Augustine’s TTC a beacon of academic, spiritual and infrastructural excellence. We recognize that the future of Kenya’s education system depends on well-trained teachers and we are proud to contribute to this noble mission.

Together, with God’s guidance, we shall move this college from where we are today to where we must be—a modern, vibrant, and impactful institution that shapes the destiny of our nation.
